realmadrid ✓ - Real Madrid C. F. condemns all types of racist and xenophobic language and behaviour in football, sport and life in general, such as the regrettable and unfortunate comments made against our player O ViniJr in the last few hours. Real Madrid would like to express its affection and support for Vinicius Junior, a player who regards football as an attitude towards life through joy, respect and sportsmanship. Football is the most global sport there is and should be a model of values and coexistence. The club has directed its legal services to take legal action against anyone who makes racist remarks towards our players.

QAnon: What is it and where did it come from?
QAnon is a wide-ranging, unfounded con- spiracy theory that says that President Trump is conducting a secret war against elite Satan- worshipping pedophiles in government, busi- ness and the media. In an interview, Mr. Trump told that he didn't know much about the move- ment, but added that he'd heard that “these were people who love our country.” QAnon believers have speculated that this fight will lead to a day of reckoning where prominent people such as former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton will be arrested and executed. The movement has faced restrictions from Facebook, Twitter,
and Instagram who have taken action against thousands of accounts and web addresses link- ing to videos and websites spreading QAnon's bizarre ideas.
Thousands of Americans believe it. The amount of online traffic to mainstream social networking sites has burst since 2017, and indications are the numbers have gone up further during the coronavirus pandemic. QAnon supporters coordinate abuse of perceived enemies, politicians, celebrities and journalists who they believe are covering up for pedophiles. It's not just threatening messages online. Twitter says it took action against QAnon because of
the potential for “offline harm”.
Dozens of QAnon supporters are running for Congress in November. It's quite likely that a QAnon supporter - or someone sympathetic to the conspiracy theory - will sit in the next US Congress.

Words that define the present
At a time when the world is changing more quickly than ever before, we need a new vocabulary to help us grasp what’s happening.
Catfishing. This word would make more sense if it referred to fishing for cats, but in fact, it refers to people who construct false identities online. Whether out of boredom, loneliness or malice, they lure other people into continued messaging correspondence, thereby building false relationships with them (the apparent source of the term “catfish” is a 2010 documentary called Catfish, whose verity, ironically enough, has been questioned).
There are two ways of looking at this: 1) The internet/ cyberspace is wonderful, because it gives people the freedom to augment or totally change their identities, and this is a marvellous new dawn for human expression, a new step in human evolution. 2) Nah, it’s a false dawn, because the internet is essentially a libertarian arena, and, as such, an amoral one (lots of “freedoms” but with no attendant social obligations); it is a new jungle where we must watch our backs and struggle for survival, surely a backward step in evolution. I lean toward the latter.

Cyberbullying is harassment through electronic means such as telephone text messages, social media such as Facebook and Twitter or online blogs and bulletin boards. In normal bullying, students are given a daily break from the torment as bully and victim each go to their separate homes. But for victims of cyberbullying, there is no reprieve, as the abuse enters into their private lives. In the US, there are at least 44 states that have anti-bullying laws on the books. While only six of them use the actual word “cyberbullying", 31 others have laws that specifically mention “electronic harassment".
Prosecution in the UK is a little more difficult. While all schools are required to have anti-bullying policies in place, cyberbullying itself is not named as a criminal offence. Offenders in the UK would have to be charged under various other laws, including the Protection from Harassment Act of 2003. This makes prosecution much more difficult.
Authorities agree that in order to stop cyberbullying, there has to be parental involvement. Parents need to be vigilant about their children's access to technology. They should monitor their children's use of social media, especially children under the age of 14. Bullies are not going to simply disappear, but parents can go a long way in protecting their children from being bullied. Go! English, ano II, n. 14 (fragmento).
De acordo com o texto, nos Estados Unidos, alguns estados têm leis específicas para assédio via meios eletrônicos. Já no Reino Unido, a instauração de processos contra praticantes de cyberbullying é mais difícil porque

Fake News, Loss of Privacy Are Hurting the Internet, Mozilla Says
Major challenges facing the Internet include a collapse of privacy protections, the unabated
spread of fake news, and the consolidation of power at giant tech companies, according to a new
Internet Health Report ffom Mozilla, the nonprofit creator of the Firefox browser and other open-source
software.
[05] Many people “have started to argue that technology companies are becoming too dominant;
social media has been weaponized as a tool of harassment; our personal information has been stolen:
and democratic processes have been undermined by the manipulation of online media and ads”, the
report says.
Mozilla called on Internet users to take action by learning how to better protect their privacy and
[10] to identify misinformation. [...] Mark Surman, executive director of the Mozilla Foundation, said [...]
“Consumers, governments and technologists need to push for fair competition, open innovation,
interoperability and standards so the Internet can evolve in more healthy and humane ways”.
The report says indicators related to access, affordability, and the use of encryption are “getting
a bit better”, while censorship, online harassment, and energy use are getting worse.
[15] The lengthy report [...] addresses several issues, but focuses on privacy risks, fake news, and
tech consolidation as three major issues to address.
A loss of privacy: The report looks at insecure Internet-of-things devices as a serious problem
for privacy, with fitness tracks, kitchen appliances, and light bulbs all starting to connect to the larger
Internet. The “attack surface” of the Internet is growing [...] “Do cars share our driving habits with
[20] insurance companies? Do vacuum cleaners trade in information about the layout of our homes?”.
Fake news on the rise: Recent political campaigns in the United States and other countries
have been marred by the spread of misinformation, [...] As more people get their news from social
media, they depend on websites that display the content that attracts the most attention. “This ends up
favoring headlines that scream for reactions”, the report says. Online misinformation is a major threat
[25] to the health of the Internet and all of the societies it touches because of the potential for political
disorder, undermining of the truth, hatred and rumors that spread in conflict or disasters”, the report
says.
Big tech consolidation: A handful of huge tech companies have become “intertwined not only
with our daily lives, but with all aspects of the global economy, civic discourse, and democracy itself”,
[30] [...]. These large companies have brought several benefits by helping communication, creativity, and
commerce flourish, the report says. But some of the major online companies have become “too big”.
The problem isn't that these companies have billion-dollar valuations, hundreds of millions of users, or
large acquisition portfolios,” the report adds. “Through monopolistic business practices [...] they
undermine privacy, openness, and competition on the Web”.
[35] The report calls on Internet users to take action to improve its health. Mozilla [...] asks users to model
good practices, such as learning about online data collection practices, learning how to identify online
abuse, and improve their “crap detection” skills.
